In today’s first reading (May 20/21) we see the Apostles remaining focused on the ministry to which God has called them. So, to insure that the widows are not neglected, they delegate the task. They instruct the community of disciples to select seven men to serve in this ministry. It is not that the Apostles believed that serving food to the widows was menial work. They instructed the followers to select men of “good standing”. The task was important to the Apostles, yet, it was not what God called them to do. Each of us have received gifts for a particular calling. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will help us to discern and live out joyfully the particular vocations to which we are suited.
